News from our Town Clerk: Municipal election vacancies; warrant article petitions; dog licenses

The filing period has opened for Vernon’s March Municipal elections. The following positions are open

Because of a one-year change in Vermont state law, petitions will not be needed, Instead a candidate consent form must be filed by 5 p.m., January 25th. Forms can be mailed or e mailed by calling the town Clerks office at 257-0292 or e mailing clerk@vernonvt.org.

Municipal elections will take place on Tuesday, March 2. The date and format of the Town Meeting is yet to be determined, pending any actions by the Vermont legislature.

Petitions for placing articles on the Town Meeting warrant are still required. Forms may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office. Petitions for warrant articles require the signatures of 95 registered voters and must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office by January 14.

Vernon dog licenses for 2021 are now available. All dog owners must register their pets every year according to Vermont law. Proof of a current rabies vaccination is required at the time of licensing. The cost is 9 dollars for spayed and neutered dogs, and `13 dollars for dogs who have not.
