Vernon has a Community Center!
At its July 16 meeting, the Friends of Vernon Center (FVC) Board of Directors unanimously decided to name the historic building with the newer addition on Governor Hunt Road: the Governor Hunt House & Community Center.
“Entergy gave the Friends of Vernon Center the Governor Hunt House and adjacent property this year. Our decision to rename the property the Governor Hunt House & Community Center celebrates its historic significance as well as its value to the residents of Vernon. We look forward to opening it to the public in 2021,” said Martin Langeveld, chair of the FVC Board.
Getting Ready: In mid-August, Jean Carr, Kathy Korb, Chad Mulverhill, Tom Rappaport, Sandra Rulewich, and Bronna Zlochiver of the Friends of Vernon Center Program and Building and Grounds Committees met to start preparing the Governor Hunt House & Community Center for future rentals.
While we know we have lots of work to do to get the Governor Hunt House & Community Center ready for future use, we will begin that work in early September. Our goal is to be open for events such as family reunions, game nights, craft nights, holiday parties, celebrations of all kinds, meetings, trainings, presentations, and the like in the Spring of 2021. We look forward to welcoming you.
