Candidate’s statement: Patrick Gilligan, Candidate for State Representative, Windham-1

My name is Patrick Gilligan and I am seeking the Republican nomination for the Windham One House of Representatives seat concerning the towns of Guilford and Vernon, Vermont as a write in candidate in the Republican Primary.

My story begins at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where I was born. I am a sixth generation Vermonter. I was baptized at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Brattleboro. I was raised in Vernon. I attended Vernon Elementary School, Brattleboro Area Middle and Union High school. Then I attended and graduated from Castleton University in 2017. At Castleton, I participated and did well as a multiple sport collegiate student athlete and was involved with a number of clubs. Most notably the President and Founder of the Castleton University Republican Club. I was one of only two Castleton students selected to be moderators for the 2016 governors debate between Sue Minter and Phil Scott which was hosted by VTDigger. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Economics. I currently work as a laborer-carpenter at my families real estate company.

Why am I running? As many believe, it is time for new leadership in Montpelier and it is time for a new generation of Vermonters to embrace this call to civic engagement within our communities. I am answering that call with new ideas to meet and deal with those inherent problems that grip our society. My campaign and my purpose in Montpelier will be to move Vermont forward in a way which we as a society allow more freedom of association, equal opportunity, advocate for more local control of our communities, expand our individual freedoms and lower taxes.
