Just a reminder….petitions to run for office are due to the Town Clerk’s office on January 26^th at 5:00 PM.  The deadline to withdraw petitions is January 28^th.

The Treasurer’s position is open and residents should know that due to the resignation of the past Treasurer the Selectboard has hired a Book Keeper to fulfill most of the Finance responsibilities of the Treasurer’s office. The Treasurers opening entails fewer hours for statutory duties only and will be paid a stipend. 

There will be an article to appoint a Treasurer for Statutory Duties as opposed to an elected Treasurer.  This comes after the resignation of the last Treasurer and from a strong recommendation of our Auditing Firm, Consultants and Employment attorneys.  An elected Treasure puts the Town in a great risk of liability for an elected person to have control of the Town’s Finances with little or no experience or training. An appointed Treasure would have the same authority as an elected Treasurer and balance of power with the Selectboard.  An appointed Treasurer is required to have experience and training.

The Town Clerk will not be answering questions on these changes or Town Meeting Warning articles.

Anyone with questions on these changes or Town Meeting articles should attend the Selectboard meeting on February 3^rd at 6:30 PM.
